Tajikistan’s gold and foreign exchange reserves increase by 3% in H1 2014

Tajikistan’s gold and foreign exchange reserves increased by 3% in the first half of the year, and amounted to $1.15 billion, according to the National Bank’s Chairman, Abdudzhabor Shirinov. “We intend to increase the amount of gold and foreign reserves at least by 15% by the end of the year,” he said.
Since beginning of 2014, the National Bank has carried out currency interventions to support the national currency – somoni – that affected the amount of foreign exchange reserves of Tajikistan. Today’s gold and foreign exchange reserves of Tajikistan consist of 12 tons of gold stored both domestically and in banks of Switzerland and Germany. In late 2013, reserves of Tajikistan amounted to $1.07 billion, the rate increased by 10.2% back than compared to 2012.
